The Sleeping Giant
Posted Tuesday, March 25, 2003 by Mavralyn
“Hush child, you will wake the giant.”

The giant slept with a smile on its face. Peaceful thoughts floated through its dreaming mind.

Every so often the outside world intruded with taunts and screams, causing a slight frown to furrow the giant’s brow. The massive form would shift slightly, causing all to swiftly flee and hide. Silence would descend and all held their breath until the giant was once more still in quiet repose. A few bolder souls believed the giant would never awaken and that it was too deeply involved in dreaming slumber... so they would poke and jab at it. The giant would frown again, perhaps even absently swat at the annoyance... and perhaps even squash a few of those that taunted it, yet still it slept on.

Once, the giant was awakened. Its roar of pain was heard throughout the world and its mighty fists came down swiftly upon the earth in total destruction. It blinked at what it had wrought, and with sadness at the loss, it carefully helped to rebuild what was left.

Then the giant went back to sleep.
