When I arrived at the inn and entered my room, I found that someone was there before me! When I checked my meager possessions, I knew stealing was not on anyone’s mind, but something had instead been added! I found a scroll bearing the seal of Rilynt’tar. At last my search was over! Quickly breaking the seal and scanning the contents, I started to smile. Yes, this will show all those who would laugh at my dreams. As I packed my things I looked for the last time at this shabby room, then, clutching the scroll tightly, I left to keep my appointment with destiny. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Soon I found myself before the gates of Rilynt’tar where I handed the young male sargtlin the precious scroll. He returned within moments, bowing and handing me a second scroll. “I had orders to give this to you mistress as soon as you arrived”. Schooling my expression so as not to reveal my excitement, I read these new instructions... “...continue in your training, we shall soon meet...”, these were the only words that registered, and from the Ilharess herself! I sent a reply back with the sargtlin saying I would obey and that the Ilharess could contact me in Long Saddle. Elatedly, I gave thanks to Lloth and proceeded towards the town where I had learned so much already. And so ended my third day. Day 4 Lloth had indeed blessed me. When I arrived at the inn in Long Saddle, I found a young sargtlin staying there studying the ways of war. When I asked him whose house he belonged to, he replied proudly that he belonged to Rilynt’tar. The very same house that had accepted me! As I admired his form, I told him that I too was of Rilynt’tar. He always kept his eyes downcast, and his tone was always respectful when I allowed him to answer my barrage of questions. It had been a tiring journey, so I told him to fetch some wine, and I took a look around the establishment. We had been over in a corner, hidden by shadows. When I looked about, I noticed a peculiar odor coming from a group of men at another table. It wasn’t exactly repulsive, but it was not attractive either. I felt stifled by it. As the male returned with the wine, I asked him, “What is that peculiar smell?” Before he could reply, one of the men at the other table stood up and glared at us. “Must be the evil of your kind you smell drow,” he growled some such reply. Now that I could see him more clearly, I realized he was a knight of some order or another. Also, of the other 3, 2 more were knights, and one was dressed as a woodsman. All were older and stronger than either of us. Fully arrived at their maximum powers. I glanced at the sargtlin and said quietly, “Let us move to a more private room, I feel nauseous here.” As he led me across the commons, the woodsman became obnoxious. The knight had sat back down somewhat heavily, as if he had too much to drink, and couldn’t stand for long. The ranger, for that is what he was, tried to anger me into being foolish. I could tell he was getting to the young male, and dug my claws into the sargtlin’s arm. “Do not let him bring on the bloodlust male! It is what he wants, and we are too weak at this time to challenge him openly.” I parried the battle of words with cutting sarcasm and biting wit. The whole time, the sargtlin was coiled as tightly as a spring and I could feel the need in him to kill this human. Glancing over at the table of humans, I finally told the boorish oaf that I would fight a battle of wits with him, but hated to fight an unarmed male. The stupid pig, took him a few moments to realize I had insulted him. Finally, the innkeeper and the knights dragged him out of there before he could start a fight on neutral ground. I do believe we scored a slight victory in that inn. I released my grip on the male, and absentmindedly licked the blood from my fingers. “Let us find some release for that anger, sargtlin.” As we headed out, I received a mental message from my Ilharess! She inquired how my training went. I proceeded to tell her of the confrontation with the men and her newest sargtlin. Unfortunately, she would not be able to grant her honored presence to us that day, but she told me she was pleased. The rest of the day we hunted the hunters. Lloth watched over us, and victory after victory added to our knowledge. At the end of the day, as I said my devotions, I knew I had attained all the learning I could in this direction. I suddenly had the urge to seek a more arcane teaching. It was as if Lloth wanted me to know as much about the mystic as I did of the spiritual. Tomorrow I will seek out this new knowledge, I vowed. And so ended my 4th day. |
